    What’s different in Texas

No state income tax on withdrawals

Texas has no personal income tax, so withdrawals from a traditional gold IRA are taxed by the IRS only.

A state-run vault can hold IRA metal

The Texas Bullion Depository now holds precious-metal IRA assets through its IRS-approved operator. Your custodian decides which depositories it uses, so ask before you buy.

No sales tax on bullion bought outside an IRA

Texas exempts gold, silver and numismatic coins, and platinum, gold and silver bullion, from sales tax.

    Where to complain

Problems with a dealer or adviser can be reported in writing to the Texas State Securities Board.

    How it works

    Three parties, one account

    Custodian

A bank or IRS-approved trustee opens the self-directed IRA, keeps the records and sends your statements.

    Dealer

Goldco helps you choose coins or bars and arranges the purchase inside the IRA.

    Depository

An insured, audited vault holds the metal for your account. It doesn’t have to be in Texas.

    Texas questions

    Gold IRA questions from Texas

    Will Texas tax my rollover?

No. Texas has no personal income tax, and a direct transfer between custodians is not taxed by the IRS either.

Can my gold be stored in Texas?

Possibly. The Texas Bullion Depository accepts IRA metals through its operator, but only if your IRA custodian works with it. Many custodians use depositories in other states.

Do I pay sales tax on IRA gold?

Metal bought inside an IRA is a purchase by the IRA. Texas doesn’t charge sales tax on bullion or coins in any case.
